Port Wine Sandeman

Portuguese take their port wine quite seriously. Port is only a port if it comes from Portugal. There are many vineyards, some small, some large, they combine the grapes to create their ports. Most ports are sweet and can be white or red. Ports are high in alcohol, most at 22%. The trek up the hill to see the vineyard makes you want to drink just thinking about the trip back down.
This region is controlled, they cannot change their method of planting the grapes. If they are horizontal they have to stay that way or visaversa. It is also a UNESCO site.
They use an automatic stomper to stomp most of the grapes, but one container is stomped with feet.
This is the Sandeman, the logo for the vineyard.
Super narrow roads and a big drop off, but we had a really good driver named Pedro. He is the 4th Pedro we have met.
In Lamego we walked the 686 steps from the sanctuary of NOSSA Senhora dos Remédios. During a pilgrimage celebration on the 8th of September followers will climb these steps on their knees.
