Tile Musuem

The best stop of the morning was the Jerónimos Monestary. It was built in the 16th century and one of the most interesting things was that on All Saints Day in 1755 a large group was in a mass at the church. As they were there a massive earthquake hit and destroyed all of their homes in the downtown area of Lisbon. What the earthquake didn't take, fires that followed did. There was a Tsunami the next day and they say it switched the direction of the river. It was the mid-1800's before the city was reconstructed.
Vasco de Gama is buried here.
Right around the corner from the Monestary is a pastry shop with the Pastéis de Nata. The best little custard pastries from the monks secret recipe. They are served warm and just melt in your mouth!
In the afternoon we went to a tile museum and learned about how they are made and saw many old tiles from the 17th and 18th century. When we finished viewing we created our own tile that will be fired and delivered to us.
Tiles of what the old city looked like before 1755.
Dinner this evening was at a restaurant on the roof of our hotel (Seen at hotel Tivoli). Nice view and good food.
